Here begin the generous contributions of many who have reflected upon the music and artistry of Abdullah Ibrahim. Their kind permission allows Mantra Modes to share their thoughts and feelings with the world.

Lory After many years of not hearing this music, it touched me deeply and awakened deep appreciation and spirit within me much as it did years ago. I have always found it to be a profound and hopeful reflection of human uniqueness yet commonality that a Midwestern US raised suburban, caucasian man could be affected and touched so deeply by musical truth and genius emanating from continents away. It gives me hope that superficial differences aside, all people share common goals, sensibilities and the capacity to be deeply moved by one another. True communication is possible, and music may often be its most faithful messenger. Abdullah Ibrahim's music and message flies nimbly across cultures with wings on its feet.

I've just had the privilege of viewing a televised concert of the great Abdullah (when he performed at the Wits Great Hall in Johannesburg, SA). As always, watching him and hearing him play was an indescribably beautiful experience.

There are very, very few artists I know of who can reach into the deepest, most guarded corners of their audiences - right into the secret places of the heart - pull them out, and fling them upward towards the Source. But Abdullah Ibrahim is certainly one of them - unfailingly.
