Bottom3Legs TeapotFrontRight
Three Leg Manx Teapot
Family inheritance from Zella May (Cannell) McHUGH who received the pot from Eva Jane (Cannell) DAVIS about 1965. Believed to have been manufactured in the English North Midlands (Staffordshire) between 1885 and 1900, the pot was most likely purchased at the Douglas, Isle of Man china shop on Duke Street owned by  William Broughton1 (his name and shop address is inscribed on the bottom). Because the Cannell family immigrated to Ohio in 1827, the pot probably was brought to Newburgh as a souvenir at a later date by a friend or relation.

Notes:
1.    Larch S. Garrad, 1970, Journal of the Manx Museum is the source for all of the teapot historical information: three leg pots were perhaps available as late as the start of the First World War.
